Ingredients

For the Mug Cake:
- 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/8 teaspoon baking powder
- A pinch of salt
- 3 tablespoons milk (dairy or plant-based)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or melted butter)
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
For Topping (Optional):
- Whipped cream
- Fresh berries
- Powdered sugar
- Ice cream
Instructions

Step 1: Choose Your Mug
Select a microwave-safe mug that holds at least 12 ounces. This prevents overflow as the cake rises during cooking.

Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients
Add the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt directly into your mug. Stir well with a fork or small whisk until completely combined with no lumps.

Step 3: Add Wet Ingredients
Pour in the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract. Mix thoroughly until you have a smooth batter. Make sure to scrape the bottom and sides of the mug.

Step 4: Add Chocolate Chips
If using, fold in the chocolate chips for extra indulgence. You can also use white chocolate chips or peanut butter chips.

Step 5: Microwave
Microwave on high for 60–90 seconds. Cooking time varies by microwave wattage. Start with 60 seconds for a fudgier center, or go up to 90 seconds for a fully cooked cake. The top should look set but still moist.

Step 6: Cool and Serve
Let the mug sit for 1 minute before eating it will be very hot! Top with your favorite toppings and enjoy straight from the mug with a spoon.
Notes
- Microwave Wattage: Cooking time varies by microwave power. If your microwave is 1000W or higher, start with 60 seconds. For lower wattage (700-800W), you may need 75-90 seconds.
- Mug Size: Use a large mug (12-16 oz) as the batter rises significantly during cooking. A small mug will cause overflow.
- Texture Tips: For a moist, fudgy center, slightly undercook the cake. For a firmer texture, add 10-15 seconds.
- No Eggs Required: This recipe doesn’t use eggs, making it perfect for egg-free diets or when you’re out of eggs.
- Substitutions: Use almond milk or oat milk for dairy-free. Replace all-purpose flour with 1:1 gluten-free flour blend for gluten-free option.
- Storage: Best enjoyed fresh. Can be refrigerated up to 1 day in a covered mug and reheated for 15-20 seconds.
- Avoid Overmixing: Stir just until ingredients are combined to prevent a dense, rubbery texture.
